Kannada film actress Sanjjanaa Galrani arrested in Drug case

Central Crime Branch (CCB) officials on Tuesday searched the apartment of film actor Sanjjanaa Galrani in connection with the alleged drug racket linked to the Kannada film industry.
Sanjjanaa Galrani’s house was searched on the basis of information provided by Rahul Shetty, a drug peddler who is in CCB custody.
The Central Crime Branch probing the drug abuse in the Kannada film industry, on Tuesday arrested actress Sanjjanaa Galrani here, police sources said.
The development comes in the wake of city police arresting actress Ragini Dwivedi for supplying drugs to people at high-end parties in the city.
Galrani was arrested at the end of a CCB raid at her Indira Nagar residence here early this morning, they said. She was taken to the CCB office for interrogation.
“After obtaining a search warrant from the court, the searches were conducted at Sanjjanaa’s house,” the Bengaluru Joint Commissioner of Police Sandeep Patil said.
According to CCB, Galrani was under its radar ever since her friend Rahul, a realtor, was booked in connection with the drug case, they added.
Sanjjanaa had spoken out on Monday regarding her name doing rounds in the drug case on news channels, claiming that she had nothing to do with the case.
Meanwhile, the police also raided the house of Viren Khanna, who has already been arrested by the CCB sleuths in connection with the drug abuse in the film industry.
On Monday, the CCB arrested Niyaz, a drug peddler from Kerala, who allegedly supplied contraband to film actors. So far 13 people have been booked and six arrested.
The Kannada film circle had come under scrutiny for drug use after the Narcotics Control Bureau nabbed an international drug trafficking racket in multi-city raids earlier in August.
As part of these raids, huge cache of drugs were recovered from upscale gated communities in Bengaluru. At that time, sleuths had arrested one Anikha D who confessed to the police of having multiple Kannada film celebrities as part of her customer base.
Sanjjanaa Galrani’s connection with drugs case
Sanjjanaa’s name had surfaced in this case with the arrest of one of her friends Rahul who used to visit countries neighbouring India and allegedly procure synthetic drugs. Police have said that it was through Sanjjanaa that he used to push these drugs into high profile parties.
Who is Sanjjanaa Galrani?
Sanjjanaa was born in Bengaluru. She made her film debut in a Tamil movie ‘Oru Kadhal Seiveer’ in 2006. She has acted in a Kannada movie ‘Ganda Hendathi’.
Sanjjana Galrani is a multilingual actor who has acted in over 45 films, predominantly in Kannada and Telugu. Her younger sister, Nikki Galrani, too is an actor who has acted in over 25 Tamil and Malayalam movies.

After Ganda Hendathi, Sanjjanaa starred in Kannada films like Narasimha, Ondu Kshanadalli, Sagar and Yamaho Yama. Sanjjanaa stepped into Telugu cinema with Bujjigadu (2008). The Puri Jagannadh directorial also starred Prabhas and Trisha. Her other Telugu movies are Jagan Nirdoshi, Police Police, Mylari, I Am Sorry Mathe Banni Preethsona and Huduga Hudugi.
Sanjjanaa made her Malayalam debut with Casanovva (2012), also starring Mohanlal and Shriya Saran. Her other Malayalam films include The King & the Commissioner and Chila Nerangalil Chilar.
