Kim Kardashian tests positive for lupus | Kardashian broke down in tears

Kim Kardashian West broke down in tears as her doctor confirmed she had tested positive to a serious auto-immune disease. Kardashian West, who is married to American rapper Kanye West, also tested positive for rheumatoid arthritis.

The reality star had been expressing concern about pain in her hands and joints as well as her ongoing psoriasis flare-ups. She went to the doctor to get a blood test, and he told her the news during a phone call.

However, the doctor added the positive results didn’t necessarily mean she had either of the conditions, saying there were often false positives in the tests. She was told she would have to wait a few days for more accurate results.

At the time of filming, in April, Kim Kardashian was expecting her fourth child with Kanye, son Psalm, who was born in May via a surrogate. “I have a baby on the way, I have law school,” she added.

“It just can really scare you when you start really thinking about how much this is going to really change my life.”

“You know, you really do get in your head and think about the worst possible things that can happen,’’ she said on the show. “So for the next few days, it’s going to be really hell … wondering what I have, what’s going on and how to fix this.”

Lupus is a chronic auto-immune disease that can attack any part of the body, including the joints, skin, kidneys and lungs. It is estimated to affect more than 20,000 people in Australia and New Zealand, according to allergy.org.au, which also states 90 per cent of people with lupus are female.

Symptoms can also include cognitive issues, disfiguring rashes and painful joints. Rheumatoid arthritis is another autoimmune disorder, affecting the lining of an individual’s joints. It is mainly characterized by painful swelling.
