Lily James sparked speculation that she is engaged to Matt Smith after she was pictured wearing a diamond ring on her wedding finger at the BAFTAs.The Darkest Hour actress, who was on hand to present an award, caught the attention of fans as she flashed the rock on the red carpet. James, 28, was surrounded by a host of the industry’s biggest names at Sunday night’s bash, but all eyes were on the actresses new jewellery.
The notoriously private pair have been dating for four years, and despite no official comment fans were quick to take the ring as confirmation of an engagement.One tweeted: “Omg Lily James and Matt Smith my favourite couple to ever exist are engaged I’m so beyond happy for them !!!” Another posted: “Omg Lily James has a giant diamond ring is she ENGAGED TO MATT SMITH TELL ME.”
The Hollywood couple met on the set of the comedy-horror film Pride and Prejudice and Zombies in 2014. But they confirmed their romance a year later when they attended the red carpet premiere for Lily’s Disney movie, Cinderella. Both Lily and Matt have remained tight-lipped over their relationship but are regularly spotted out and about together in London. The Downton Abbey star previously confessed that it can be “annoying” whenever she’s spotted with Matt. She said: “It’s hard to go places and it can be annoying.”
