“Music videos has become a good game to get recognized in a short span of time,” says Jitendra Singh Tomar

Today an independent director, Jitendra Singh Tomar has done more than 15 music videos and plans to go forward to full-fledged movie projects and digital shows. His upcoming project is a web series from MX Player titled – “Kahanibaaz – the story teller”.  While communicating with him, we found him talking about his struggle and success so far. It takes a lot of effort and struggle to reach his point of life. Below are the excerpts from the interview:

Gossipganj: What and how much difference do you see in yourself when you came to Mumbai from Dhanbad in 2013 and now?

Jitendra Singh Tomar: I see a lot of difference in myself professionally as well as at maturity level. I was at a learning stage when I came to Mumbai. I worked as an assistant director. Today I am an independent director and have done more than 15 music videos. It takes a lot of effort and struggle to reach at this point of life.

Gossipganj: Do you feel that newcomers in the entertainment industry have to face the drawback of nepotism? Is there a culture of lobbying in the TV industry also?

Jitendra Singh Tomar: I don’t think so. Yes there are some negative effects but I count them in 1 percent. If you are truly passionate and dedicated towards your goal you will surely find your way. I have struggled for more than 3 years to reach here and made a lot of friends and family from this industry. Obviously my son / daughter will get help from all of them. No parents want their child to suffer as they did. If you count this in nepotism, then yes there is a lot of nepotism and it always will.

Gossipganj: You have worked for big serials like Tarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chasmah, Devon Ke Dev… Mahadev. What difference do you find between directing TV Serials and Music Videos?

Jitendra Singh Tomar: TV and Film are totally different games. In television you don’t get to explore much creativity as it is a daily routine. Production has to run the show daily. But in film it’s totally on the director and his vision. There is no boundation or limitation of time and money.

Gossipganj: Has it ever happened during the struggle that you have run out of money, if so, what’s your perspective on life?

Jitendra Singh Tomar: Many times but this is a part of life if you are in this industry. You have to be patient and cool to balance this situation.

Gossipganj: Everyday lakhs of people come to Mumbai with big dreams in their eyes, what would you like to say to them which can inspire them in their struggle?

Jitendra Singh Tomar: I would like to say, it takes time. There is no shortcut to success. Stick around genuine and good people. Surely you will get a chance.

Gossipganj: What were your projects that you had high hopes for but later felt that you could have done better?

Jitendra Singh Tomar: Tera Saath from Zee Music could have been better in terms of art work and post production.

Gossipganj: What kind of film would you like to direct? What’s your dream project?

Jitendra Singh Tomar: A thriller based movie or web series. My dream project is to work with Emraan Hashmi.

Gossipganj: What types of food do you like to have? Because you come from Jharkhand where the food is indigenous and Mumbai is just the opposite.

Jitendra Singh Tomar: I like the street food of Mumbai and sweets of Jharkhand.

Gossipganj: What are your upcoming projects?

Jitendra Singh Tomar: My upcoming project is a web series from MX Player titled – “Kahanibaaz – the story teller”.

Gossipganj: Do you think that OTT will replace the theaters because of this pandemic? Is OTT our future?

Jitendra Singh Tomar: No, this is for just a short period. Audience definitely will walk to the theatre for Dolby Sound and IMAX quality. The Pan India movies will bring them back to its original position.

Gossipganj: Who are your favorite actor and actress from the golden era? Do you get a glimpse of him or her in today’s actor or actress?

Jitendra Singh Tomar: Dilip Kumar is my favourite actor and Hema Malini is my favourite actress. I see a glimpse of them in Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt.

Gossipganj: Who is your favorite director?

Jitendra Singh Tomar: Raj Kumar Hirani.

Gossipganj: If you get a chance to work in South films, who would you like to direct?

Jitendra Singh Tomar: Suriya

Gossipganj: Why are you working more on music videos now?

Jitendra Singh Tomar: Music videos are getting a lot of attention from the audience these days. In everyday trending videos on YouTube, you will find 2 or 3 music videos trending daily. So now this has become a good game to get recognized in a short span of time.

Gossipganj: Any further career planning that you would like to share with your fans?

Jitendra Singh Tomar: Yes I am in this field for film. And I see myself as a film director in the future.
