Nasir U Mahmud assaulted and tried to rape Bangladeshi film actress Pori Moni

Prominent Bangladeshi film actress Shamsunnahar Smriti, popularly known as Pori Moni, has sought justice alleging that a businessman attempted to rape and murder her. The 28-year-old actress alleged that Nasir U Mahmud assaulted her at the club in Dhaka’s Uttara four days ago.

Calling Prime Minister Hasina “mother, the actress in her Facebook post also claimed that she sought help from law enforcement agencies but failed to get justice.

“Where will I seek justice? the post read. I couldn’t find it in the last four days. Everyone listens to the details and never follows through. I’m a girl, I’m an actor, but before that, I’m a human being. I can’t remain silent, she said in the post in Bangla.

Addressing a press conference before filing the case, the actress alleged that Nasir U Mahmud had assaulted and threatened to murder her at the Uttara Boat Club on the night of June 9, adding that she was rescued by the staff at the facility.

She added that at one point, the businessman forced her to drink by putting the neck of a bottle into her mouth, beat her up and tried to rape her at the same time.

Following the complaint, police carried out a raid and arrested the businessman and four others. Two of the arrestees are FIR named accused in the case filed by the actress while three others are their associates.

Who is Pori Moni?

Pori Moni rose to fame fast after joining the movie industry in 2015. She has played the lead female role in two dozen Bangladeshi movies.

She is best known for her work in Giasuddin Selim’s “Swapnojaal” (2018). She is also set to play Pritilata in upcoming film, “Pritilata Waddedar” to be helmed by Rashid Palash.

Forbes magazine last year named her as one of 100 Digital Stars of Asia.
