Navneet Nishan admits being harassed supported Vinta Nanda
Navneet Nishan too was sexually harassed by the Alok Nath who has sanskaari image in both Bollywood and TV industry. Vinta Nanda shook the entertainment industry with her spine-chilling story of sexual assault by veteran actor Alok Nath, giving a futher impetus to the #MeToo movement in India.
Vinta Nanda said “I was producing and writing the No 1 show on TV called Tara. He was after my lead girl. She was not interested in him. He was an alcoholic, shameless and obnoxious but he was also the television star of that decade, so not only was he forgiven for all his bad behaviour but many of the guys would egg him on to be his worst. My lead female actor was being harassed by him. He would mess with her on the sets and everyone would be silent. When she complained to us, we decided to let him go. We needed one last shot between them and soon after it had been taken we had planned to let him know that we didn’t want to work with him any longer. He had become aware of our plan and on that day, he came drunk on our sets.
He continued to drink till the time he was called for the shot. When the moment came and the camera rolled, he felt up our female lead and very viciously. My lead actress slapped him. We asked him to leave the sets and told him that he was not going to be on the show any longer,” the writer’s heart-wrenching FB post read.
Navneet Nishan had also sued Alok Nath back then for Rs 1 crore In a 1994 interview to India Today magazine, for calling her a drug user in an interview to Movie magazine. “This is absolutely fabricated. It’s taken me eight years to get where I am and I don’t want some alcoholic fool to mess it up for me,” Navneet had responded at that time. It all apparently started when Nishan had a fight with costume coordinator and Alok Nath’s spouse Ashu Nath. After the incident, Alok started misbehaving with Nishan on the sets of the show. After this incident, Alok’s track was wrapped up on the show.
Navneet Nishan , who played the lead role in 90s show Tara, issued a statement in support of writer-producer who accused actor Alok Nath of rape. In a statement to India Today, she revealed that she dealt with the harassment for four years by “slapping the man in question.”
“I support every woman and man who is standing up for herself/himself in the #MeToo movement. I empathise with Vinta for the terrible pain she has gone through; it is unimaginable. I dealt with the four-year harassment by slapping the man in question and it is done and dusted. l suffered the loss of the show and was further shamed by the man through media and I endured that. I fought my battles there and then. I am immensely glad that the power trip and sexual dominance coming from this power is being called out. It is high time,” she said in the statement.
