Usha Uthup | The noted pop singer dedicates a song to flood-hit Kerala

Usha Uthup paid homage to flood-hit Kerala through a song. Noted pop singer Usha Uthup expressed her solidarity with the people of Kerala ravaged by the recent floods, that forced a million people from homes, claimed hundreds of lives and caused widespread damage, by altering the lyrics of her popular song Ente Keralam.

She said she was grateful to Chittoor Gopi for rewriting the lyrics of her super hit song. “Two Bengali editors worked on this video. The lines written by Chittoor Gopi were translated for them. They did an excellent job,” Usha posted.

Usha shared the latest version of the song on her Youtube channel along with a note in which the singer says that the song is her invocation to rebuild a happy and prosperous Kerala. The original lines Ente Kerala ethra sundaram (How beautiful my Kerala is) has been rewritten as Ente Keralam ethra sangadam (How sad my Kerala is). The rest of the lines narrate the current plight of Kerala. The chilling visuals of the landscape submerged in the flood waters too are included in the album.

The song titled ‘Pralayathaalam’, has been penned by Chittor Gopi. Sumit Ramachandran has composed the music. “I was deeply saddened by the plight of Kochi. I asked my daughter Anjaly whether we could do something for Kerala despite being so far away. It was she who told me to call up Chittoor Gopi and ask him to rewrite the lines of ‘Ente Keralam’ to reflect the current situation of Kerala. That is how this song was born. I dedicate this song in honour of Kerala,” the singer posted about the song.
